Errata to Know your New Zealand Summerfruit booklet - Edition 1 June 2012
Following the distribution of Edition 1 we were made aware by some of our industry connections that pieces of the information we published required amendments.
In some instances this was simply omitting to ensure that particular fruit varieties had the registered trademark applied. For example the cherries Sonnet, Sweetheart and Staccato all require the ®.In other cases there was incorrect spelling of a fruit variety.
More importantly we are now aware of the Food Standards Authority, standard 1.3.2 Vitamins and Minerals. In order to make a claim about a vitamin or mineral, the content serve of that food must contain at least 10% of the RDI (recommended daily intake) for that vitamin or mineral. To comment that a food is a ‘good source’ it must contain at least 25% of the vitamin to be considered a good source. Furthermore the wording around any health claims must be able to be supported by validated scientific evidence or alternatively it is permitted to refer to a food product in relation to maintaining a health function rather than changing or improving it.
