Adverse events and tourism opportunities

Mon, Sep. 24, 2018 5:30pm | Cromwell

You're invited to an event organised by Women in Wine and open to all orchardists in Central Otago to hear from speakers on two diverse topics. Registration details are below.

Adverse events – Two speakers from Federated Farmers will be in Central to discuss how farmers treat issues and emergencies in their industry. This is along the lines of why reinvent the wheel when someone else has done all the hard work and thinking. The wine industry currently has no plan in place for when an emergency strikes, such as serious disease outbreak in a vineyard, poison getting into the irrigation water supply, counterfeit wine, and so on. Like summerfruit, they have an international brand and when bad news strikes they need to know how to handle it and what they need to do to protect their vineyards and brands as well as the Central Otago brand.

Tourism opportunities – Dr Trudie Walters from Otago University's Department of Tourism will speak about the tourism opportunities that Central Otago has which relate to local food and wine industries. Dr Walters teaches the popular Introduction to Wine Business course over summer, and her research interests include food and wine events.

The event is being held at the Wooing Tree Vineyard Tasting Room, 64 Shortcut Road, Cromwell 9310.
