Field visit to Clyde Research Centre

Fri, Dec. 8, 2017 3:30pm | Plant & Food Research

Come and see the progress on the FOPs (Future Orchard Planting Systems) programme on both cherries and apricots at PFR's Clyde Research Orchard. As well as the original blocks, we also have a younger block of cherries in which the upright shoots are developing now.

Also check out the fruit of 'Nzsummer4' (Mac1/6). This apricot is very early for Central Otago and its fruit has a very attractive orange background colour and blush. The size is small, but quite good for early season – around 50-68g and soluble solids concentration is excellent; between 12.5-14%. The crop is looking really fantastic this year and with the season being early this year, there are already some fruit to harvest. We will save some fruit in the coolstore for you to see, if they are all gone off the trees.

Refreshments will follow the session.

Plant & Food Research is located at 990 Earnscleugh Road, Clyde.
