Central Otago growers are invited to an Nzsummer field walk at 4pm on Tuesday, 18 February at Gary Bennett’s orchard in Roxburgh to view and taste the Nzsummer2 and Nzsummer3 apricots.
Brief presentations will be made by Gary on the tree phenology and a little on Apricot Co. Claire Scofield, from Plant & Food Research, will discuss the information which has been gathered by the team from Clyde on the varieties as grown in the Central Otago region.
This will be the perfect opportunity to find out more about the new varieties and see trees that are part of a trial planting in a commercial orchard.
Growers in the region currently trialling the Nzsummer varieties are invited to come along and share their experiences with these apricots.
Remember there is still an opportunity to order Nzsummer budwood (dependent on rootstock availability from your nursery) and trees are still available for planting in 2020.
If you are interested in ordering Nzsummer budwood and available trees (20 February deadline) or learning more about the series, contact Andrea Crawford by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org
A reminder that at Summerfruit NZ field days, visitors will be asked to park in a designated area, clean their footwear and walk through a disinfection bath as part of the industries new biosecurity protocols.
