While growers, packhouses, and exporters are busy with the season ahead, we are continuing our work looking into a replacement of the Summerfruit NZ secure portal. The current platform is aging and has fundamental issues that cannot be easily fixed or updated. The Board and I believe an upgrade to a new portal will benefit our growers, packhouses, and exporters in several ways, including the ability to securely share, distribute and collate industry stats and knowledge, more efficient use of limited resources, the potential to leverage funding for co-funding from external agencies, and alignment with other agricultural tech projects on data sharing and data governance.
We are collaborating with:
- Citrus NZ,
- Persimmons NZ,
- Feijoas NZ,
- HortNZ,
- Onions NZ,
- and other product groups on this project.
Summerfruit NZ’s Board recently gave its approval to proceed to contract negotiations with our preferred supplier, with the aim of creating a platform that multiple product groups can join over time. In quarters one and two of 2023, we will be seeking input from growers and other stakeholders to ensure that the new portal meets the needs of our members, now and into the future.
