Students Seeking Summerfruit Growers Help

Summerfruit NZ has been approached by university students seeking to connect with summerfruit growers who are willing to provide the students with information and/or complete surveys on aspects of their horticulture businesses.

  1. Packaging Research

Liam Hooper is taking part in the Summer Start-up Programme, a 10-week startup accelerator for University of Canterbury students. This programme is an extra curriculum, not part of any academic research, and Liam’s findings won’t be published in any way.

    More information

Liam is a product design student at the University of Canterbury and with his teammate, Samuel, is keen to get a better understanding of the fruit packaging environment.  They are looking to connect with the summerfruit industry who can assist in answering some quick questions on the expectations around packaging fruit and why current packaging is chosen.

If you are willing to help Liam, please contact him at
     liamjameshooper@gmail.com.

  2. Effect of Automation on Staff Recruitment and Retention

Rowan Lowe, an HR Advisor at EastPack in the Bay of Plenty, is completing a Master of Management Studies at The University of Waikato.

Rowan is undertaking a research project for her thesis on the effect of semi-automation on employee attraction and retention in the New Zealand fruit industry. She is very keen to connect to summerfruit growers as part of this project.

While Rowan’s interviews could be up to an hour, many interviews will be shorter than that.  All the information in Rowan’s final thesis will be anonymised and presented in a collective format, so not individually identifiable.
