March Biosecurity update

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB)

Since the first find in a Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) funded surveillance trap in Orakei, Auckland, no further BMSB have been found. (Link to SNZ website article)

Yellow legged hornet

Auckland’s yellow‑legged hornet response is tracking strongly, with 62 queens and 81 nests found and contained so far. Biosecurity teams say the operation is progressing well, with no detections outside the North Shore response zone

Fruit Flies

The Queensland fruit fly response in Mt Roskill has ended, no further fruit fly were found. The decision to end the operation follows 6 weeks of intensive fruit fly trapping and the inspection of more than 230 kilograms of fruit. Read more here.

A new response is underway in Papatoetoe after the discovery of a single male Oriental fruit fly. This is unrelated to the Queensland fruit fly response. Read more here.
