Summerfruit NZ is pleased that the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has now been concluded, marking a significant milestone.
What this means for our sector:
Cherries: Tariff elimination will be phased in over 10 years from the start date, reducing duties from 33% to 0%.
Apricots: A 50% tariff reduction will be phased in over five years from the start date, cutting duties from 33% to 16.5%.
This agreement opens the door to one of the world’s fastest-growing premium fruit markets, creating new opportunities for growers to expand their reach and improve competitiveness.
Next Steps:
The FTA is expected to be signed in 2026, and to start in 2027.
