A NINE MEMBER BOARD GOVERNS SUMMERFRUIT NZ
The Board consists of five grower-elected directors, three exporter directors nominated by the Summerfruit Exporters Committee and one co-opted director.
Positions on the Board are not allocated by region. The chairman is elected from within the Board by the other directors. The chairman is Tim Jones who was re-elected at the Board meeting held on 19 November 2020.
LEGAL FOUNDATION
Summerfruit NZ is an incorporated society registered under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 (Registration number WN/618563) and was first incorporated in 1994.
There are two pieces of legislation which govern the organisation's functions.
1 Summerfruit NZ administers the Commodity Levies (Summerfruit) Order 2014 under the Commodity Levies Act 1990. The Levy Order must be renewed every six years and the new Commodity Levies (Summerfruit) Order 2020 will replace the 2014 Order when it comes into force on 18 August 2020. Under the Commodity Levy Act, Summerfruit NZ is required to report to the Minister of Agriculture annually. This report is reviewed by MPI.
2 Summerfruit NZ is a Recognised Product Group under the New Zealand Horticultural Export Authority Act 1987. Oversight of the product group activities and responsibilities under the Act are administered by Horticultural Export Authority. Each product group produces an Export Marketing Strategy (EMS). Summerfruit NZ updates our EMS annually.
