NZGAP GLOBALG.A.P. Equivalent applies for GFSI Recognition

NZGAP has recently applied for The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognition of NZGAP GLOBALG.A.P. Equivalent in the categories BI-Farming of Plants (growing) and BIII- Pre-process Handling of Plant Products (packing).  Although the timeframes are tight, GFSI are committed to working with NZGAP through the process, with the aim of attaining recognition by the end of 2022.

Food safety schemes such as NZGAP are recognised by GFSI when they meet all the requirements via a comprehensive benchmarking and assessment process.  International markets are increasingly seeking grower certification from GFSI recognised schemes (especially in Australia).

GFSI recognition means that growers will have access to more markets while meeting GFSI, GLOBALG.A.P., NZGAP and Food Act requirements from a single audit. This will minimise cost and complexity for growers using a standard designed specifically for New Zealand horticulture. If you have any queries about this project or transitioning to the new standard please email info@nzgap.co.nz or call 04 070 5867.

NZGAP would like to acknowledge MPI for financial support for this recognition process via the Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures fund.
